Chill day in Catania

With not much left in terms of sights in Catania we opted for a chill day. Weather looked iffy with thundery showers forecasted. Popped down to the market for panini and some more salami, ham and bresaola. Chilled a bit before heading around the corner at lunch time to pop into a shoe shop. We had seen some lovely smart casual shoes for Rich in the window the last few days so today was a good opportunity to try them on.

In the end we got stuck in the shop for a bit as it was chucking it down outside. In the end I bought a pair of nice black leather Nikes and Rich walked out empty handed, haha.

On to the wine shop for some more tasting, but unfortunately it was closed. Boo. Not many customers in such weather I suppose.
Funny that. As soon as there's a drop of rain all those peddlers who try to sell you the most ridiculous toys and tack, are now armed with umbrellas trying to make quick coin. They must have a stash somewhere, haha.
We got constantly approached by them. How would they know that our 300 quid waterproof jackets had seen so much worse than this.

On to Villaroel our favourite cafe for some granita and caffeine. They had put up huge umbrellas so sitting outside we still stayed dry.

Granita!

Down the few metres to Buatta for a cheeky afternoon mojito before we tried the wine shop again, just in time before the next heavy downpour.

The lovely Silvia recognised us straight away and before we knew it we were sat down with a nice white and some cheese her father had brought out.
We chatted about wine, food, Catania, Sicily and had a great time sipping on a lovely red and a lovely white whilst the street outside was once more resembling more of a river.
Tried some very yummy liquors as well and a cheeky Sicilian specialty which is made of honey and quite a bit like mead but much darker, stronger and not as thick.
Left slightly pickled but very happy after like two hours with a bag full of bottles.

Dropped them off at home and went out for pasta to Trattoria U Fucularu which happened to be just around the corner.
We were quite early at 7pm but the small place was already busy. We just about got a table. It felt like a proper family run restaurant, staff was nice but super busy. We had both a salad for starters. I quite liked my Insalata Cantanese with orange slices, fennel and honey. Very different and very yummy, I have to make that myself at home. This place is so inspiring in terms of food!

For mains we both had freshly made pasta. Mine was with shrimps and pistachio, Rich had a carbonara. Very good both of them. Just good Italian food.

Back home we were both knackered from basically doing nothing all day, haha. Watched a bit of Netflix and that was it. Even too tired to open one of the wines.
