From South to North

Monday: Castletownbere - Allihies

After being woken by the seagul's cries we soon packed our stuff as there was no rain and a dry tent is favourable.  The sun was occasionally breaking through the clouds as we walked the 5 kilometers back into Castletownbere.
Got ourselves some milk and chocolate at the spar and set off to Allihies.  Getting milk and chocolate from the local shop in the morning is already our tradition now. The milk is very good here and cadbury's dairy is just my favourite!
Walked a nice road up into low hills with very nice and warm weather. Passed our first stone circle on the way. This area is actually full of stone circles, standing stones and the like, until now we hadn't seen any.
The path went along the foot of Miskish Mountain with its top hidden in the clouds as we were used to with all the mountains by now. Along a fence and then through a forest we went. The forest was really a change in scenery with the trees blocking most of the sunlight and putting the whole scenery into some kind of twilight.
It would've been perfect if it wasn't for the muddy road. At some point the was no going around a huge boghole so we stepped through as quick as possible. With mud in our boots we continued up the next hill with rain and hagel greeting us.
As we arrived at the highest point the rain stopped and the valley of Allihies slowly came into view. The green flecked with a few houses and surrounded by mountains and the sea was just beautiful. These are the moments when you know why you are going through all those troubles.
Went into the small village and checked in at he hostel. Got rid of our wet clothes, did some washing, enjoyed a long hot shower and went to the pub next door with two nice Germans we met at the hostel.

Tuesday: Dursey Island
Good timing. We really wanted to go to Dursey Island and leave our stuff at the hostel. A day without our heavy backpacks would be really great. Luck was on our side. Only on Tuesdays the rural bus goes all the way from Castletownbere to Dursey sound and passes Allihies in the morning. So we seized the opportunity and took he bus with the other two Germans. The sun was shining from a clear blue sky as we arrived at the cable car that was going to take us across Dursey sound onto the island.
The bus was passing this stop earlier than we would be back but the driver said it was not a problem, he would wait. I'm still amazed at how friendly the Irish are. So we walked around the island getting sunburned on he way and enjoyed the f....ing best day so far. It's going to be hard to beat that! Views of Beara, Dingle and Kerry, the blue sea, the white foam of the waves crashing onto the cliffs... just perfect. Got back to Allihies and have driver drop us at the beach. Spent some time taking photos and walked back to Allihies. Got some ice cream at the village shop and some food for dinner. Irish beef burgers. Whoohoo. Will go over to the pub for a pint in a few minutes.
Tomorrow we'll walk to Eyeries which is the most colorful town in Ireland. There is no hostel or camping ground so we'll try to find a farmer who'll let us pitch our tents at his property or just pitch them somewhere in he wilds.
